Thread: Why do many dislike Norton ?

You generally don’t need dedicated antivirus software in 2013. The inbuilt firewall keeps most shit out, and the default Windows Defender can clean everything else up. I haven’t paid for antivirus in years.

Why do many dislike Norton ?

    I’m a former salesperson.
AV programs are fear mongering marketing moves that are sold by scaring people into thinking someone wants their kid’s pictures.
Surf smart, use Chrome, use AdBlock on unknown websites, and don’t browse porn (your loved one will thank you, seriously, porn ruins your perception of reality and ideology of relationships, I say this as an Atheist, but I digress)
If you follow this you won’t be spending $60 a year for Norton or hundreds for ripoff virus removals. Plus your experience will be way better. I got out of the business of computer sales partially due to feeling like I was a robber when I got home. (And partially because its a dead end job and I’m the app developer, big thinker start up type, what’s the point of living if you don’t live?)

    Because ESET NOD32 exists.
But seriously, Norton is super bloated, expensive, and lbr Windows’ built in firewall is mostly sufficient.

Because virii are actually less intrusive and process-intensive than Norton, making the cure worse than the ailment.
idk if they persist with undocumented, deep hooks into the system, but if they do, there’s also the very likely possibility that virii are less likely to bluescreen your OS.
    Team virus, tbh.
